As Shanghai's first luxury urban resort, The PuLi Hotel and Spa is centrally located between Nanjing West Road and YanAn Road, adjacent to a multi-use development Park Place. With 193 rooms and 36 suites, The PuLi offers 24-hour butler service, in-room dining, concierge, laundry and valet services.
Jing'An, the hotel's signature 120-seat Restaurant boasts impressive views across the park. Chef Michael Wilson's creations reflect his travels and passion for food as he takes on classics with a twist. His personal interpretation of breakfast, lunch and dinner creates three distinct dining experiences for a guest at the restaurant.
A 32-metre Long Bar offers one of Shanghai's longest wine and champagne selections by the glass. The bar and lounge will create a chameleon-like atmosphere as the space transforms in character and mood through the day.
The Health Club has a superbly equipped state of the art gymnasium, sauna, steam room, experiential showers, jacuzzi pool, 25-metre lap infinity pool as well as the first Anantara Spa in Shanghai. With different venues to choose from, guest can experience handcrafted service from tailor-made menus to programming assistance. The Level 1 Garden Terrace, Level 2 Jing'An Private Dining Room, Level 3 Meeting Room, and Level 26 as a multifunctional space which can host exclusive and intimate events and gatherings up to 150 guests.

 

 

 

Buildingmaterials

Chinese materials, including dark local timbers, cast bronze, air dried clay tiles, grey Shanghai brick and local flamed and handmade stone were used as building materials for hotel's public areas and guestrooms.

Examples of building materials application in the hotel:

Stingray leather panels above the Library fireplace in size of 309cm width by 218cm height by 83cm depth

Interior Design and Lighting

Australian design firm LAYAN DESIGN GROUP, in collaboration with renowned Indonesian design firm JAYA & ASSOCIATES and award-winning Australian lighting design firm THE FLAMING BEACON, were enlisted to execute the stunning interiors of the hotel’s public areas and guestrooms as well as the garden and landscape design around the hotel.
Reference and connection to the local Chinese culture comes mostly through the materials used, giving rise to a synthesis of old and new, creating a distinctive Chinese flavour yet cosmopolitan in outlook at the same time.
Commonly used for exterior facades of buildings, the use of Shanghai brick allows the hotel to be creative in architectural aesthetics and function, through a juxtaposition of old world elements and new world technology. The century-tile flooring in the hotel lobby took a long time to produce and is specially created by the same manufacturers who worked on the Forbidden City. The designers put the material to impressive use in the lobby, turning a traditional construction material uncommonly used today into a timeless showpiece. Dragon-scaled screens and cast bronze basins in every room are other nuances which weave a meaningful common thread between the east and west, old and new.

매우 현대적인 디자인이지만 그레이톤의 벽돌마감은 상하이의 이미지를 나타내는 듯 하다.

비가 내려 스며든 빗자국의 그라데이션은 더 감성적인 느낌을 나타내고 있었다.

 

 

 

벨보이가 있는 입구에는 돌조각들이 있었는데, 엄청난 존재감을 갖고있었다.

조명으로 다른 분위기를 조성해준 것도 있었고.

 

 

 

 

입구에서 로비까지 이어지는 전실.

외관의 마감과 메쉬가 오버랩 되어있는 느낌이 굉장히 좋았다.

수공간의 존재 또한 감성적인 느낌을 충만히 가져다 주었다.

 

 

 

그 전실로 들어서면 높은 천정고에 가운데에 꽃이 놓여져 있는 공간을 마주하게 되는데

 

 

 

천정디자인이 특별한 건 없었고

 

 

 

벽면의 텍스쳐와 라이팅 효과가 입구와는 전혀 다른 공간임을 알려주었다.

 

 

 

로비 좌측에 있는 긴 바는 32m인데, 한쪽은 와인이나 샴페인을 마실수 있고, 한쪽은 리셉션과 컨시어지가 있다.

바와 같이 같은 형태의 펜던트가 반복되는 디자인이 좋았다.

바와 라운지는 꽤나 가깝게 붙어있는데, 복작복작 하지 않았어서 그런지 크게 이상할 건 없었다.

 

바닥마감은 대리석이나 타일이 아니라, 약간은 투박한 검은색 돌에 에폭시마감을 한듯 보였는데,

오히려 투박한 모양이어서 전체적으로 조화로웠다.

 

 

 

로비에서 인상깊었던 부분은 벽의 조명과 고가구의 조화였는데

벽의 컬러와 가구의 컬러가 비슷하지만 조명으로 인해 전혀 다른 느낌을 구현해내고 있었다.

조용하지만 빛나고 있었던 고가구.

 

우리나라도 분명히 아름다운 고가구가 많은데, 그것을 그저 배척하고 새로운 것만 추구하는 것이 답이 아니다.

오래되어 낡은 건물들에 더 애정이 가는 나로서는 이런 발견이 좋을 뿐.

 

 

 

화장실로 들어가기 전의 전실에도 도자기가 아일랜드형으로 놓여져있는데,

이 부분만 보면 박물관에 전시되어 있는 도자기 같이 보이기도 한다.

화장실은 두드러지지 않고.

 

 

 

화장실은 분위기는 좋았지만, 사용자 입장에서 보았을때 너무 어둡지 않나 하는 생각이 들었다.

 

 

 

가까이 갔는데 변기 뚜껑이 자동으로 올라가서 깜짝 놀랐음;;;

 

 

 

세면대의 쉐잎이 마음에 들었다.

The PuLi Hotel and Spa는 외관의 매끈한 유리가 주는 이미지와 내부의 전통적인 컨셉이 대조적이었다.

어느 디자인 사이트에서 언급했던 'OLD WORLD MEETS NEW'라는 말처럼

오래된 재료나 소품이 새로운 형태 (디자인) 과 만나서 상하이의 OLD가 스타일리쉬하게 보였다.

 

부띠끄호텔이기 때문에 세계적인 호텔들 보다 규모는 작지만

일단 로비만 봤을 때, 이 호텔이 어떤 목표를 추구하며 어떤 서비스를 제공하는지까지 추측되어

색깔을 확실히 파악할 수 있었다.

 

객실에서 묵어보지도 않았고, 수영장이나 스파도 이용해보지 않았지만

로비에만 다녀온 것도 큰 공부가 되었다.
